Meet Jessica, Joseph and Oscar

We first started our journey with the Hewitt centre in January 2021 after two years of trying to conceive naturally with no luck, I was diagnosed with PCOs we had seen Dr Drakeley in the infertility clinic and was given 6 months of Letrozole medication to try, again with no luck.  We then saw the lovely Jane for our first appointment in January 2021 and discussed our options and began the process of IVF.

We had our egg collection In May of 2021, the staff during the collection made me feel so safe and supported and I knew I was in good hands. We had our first embryo transfer a few days later and unfortunately this ended in a ectopic pregnancy.

Following this we had a further appointment with Dr Gazvani who was unbelievably supportive and empathetic towards our outcome and discussed our options moving forward and came up with a treatment plan. We also saw Patricia the counsellor before our next transfer, to talk about the disappointment and emotions related to our ectopic.

We then had our second transfer in October 2021 3 days after our wedding day, we were both very anxious this time around and unfortunately this ended up in a miscarriage around 6 weeks in to the pregnancy. This took a massive toll on us emotionally and we decided to have a few months break and enjoy being newlyweds.

We then spoke to Dr Gazvani again and he suggested more blood tests to see if there was a underlying reason for a miscarriage, I was then started on levothyroxine for my thyroid and we got ready for our 3rd transfer. Helen for our pre transfer scans everyday for a week to make sure everything was perfect, her and lottie have been absolute angels during the whole process and I don’t think I could of got through it without them.

We had our third transfer on Valentine’s day of 2022, this ended up being a failed transfer. Then finally in May of 2022 we had our fourth transfer, again we were so anxious and almost not wanting to get our hopes up, we took each day as it came and I was scanned at 6 weeks and 4 days due to previous loss, I cried the whole way to the clinic for the scan as I was scared for another negative outcome. The nurse completing the scan made me feel at ease and calmed me down, I was too scared to look at the screen, and finally we saw a heartbeat. Dr Gazvani had decided to keep me on progesterone till I was 12 weeks.

Finally in January 2023 our beautiful baby Oscar arrived, thanks to the whole team at the Hewitt centre, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. We hope to be back next year to have our last embryo transferred in hopes of a little brother or sister for Oscar.

If you are just starting your fertility journey, I would say to never give up hope. The Hewitt centre and all the staff are amazing, when you finally hold your baby in your arms all the heartbreak you have previously felt goes away, and I would do it all over again for Oscar.

To Jane, Helen, Lottie, Dr Gazvani, Mrs Fakhreldin, you are all amazing I wish I could put in to words how special you all are, you have all completely changed our lives for the better and we will forever be grateful to you all.
