Hewitt Options - Self Funded Care

We understand that not everyone is eligible for fertility treatment on the NHS, and we recognise paying for fertility treatment can be difficult for many people. Not only are people dealing with the emotional challenges fertility treatment can bring, but this may also bring financial worries.

Historically patients who were not eligible for NHS fertility care only had the option to receive private treatment from a Hewitt Centre consultant, but this is changing to help make fertility treatment a more affordable choice to many.

Launching in April 2025,  we now offer offer a new fee schedule for people who wish to choose our Hewitt Options self-funded care package.

What is Hewitt Options?

If people are not eligible for NHS funded treatment, have already received their NHS treatment entitlement, have maybe not been successful, or simply want to grow their family, this option may provide a more affordable choice to many.

Hewitt Options is a package of fertility care that is offered as a self-funded basis, a unique concept provided by the NHS. If you choose this option, you will essentially follow the same treatment pathway as NHS patients, seeing the same team of healthcare professionals as an NHS patient would.

Who can choose Hewitt Options self-funded care ?

The Hewitt Options package is intended for a wide range of patients in the following situations:

People or previous patients who are not entitled to NHS treatment for various reasons:

  • This may be due to having a higher BMI (>30)
  • You or your partner are a smoker.
  • You or your partner has a child from a previous relationship.
  • You have moved from overseas and are not entitled to NHS fertility care.
  • You do not wish to join an NHS waiting list
  • You want to return to the clinic after unsuccessful NHS treatment and you are no longer entitled to further funded treatment.
  • You want to return to the clinic after having a child through previous treatment (therefore no longer eligible for NHS treatment) and wish to grow your family.

What are the differences in Self Funded Care and Private Care?

It is really important that you know the differences so that you can make the right choice.

See our Hewitt Options booklet here

Hewitt Options may not be suitable for people who have complex medical conditions. Private Care remains a popular choice for people who wish to pay for a more personalised patient experience.

Can I find out more about Private Care ?

Private fertility care is available at the Hewitt Centre and will continue to be the preferred choice for many patients. Private care provides a consultant-led personalised care pathway and we can still arrange appointments for patients who feel private fertility care suits them better.

It is important to remember that the treatment pathway you choose does not affect your chance of having successful treatment, but you may find that one pathway is preferable, or suits your personal circumstances better.
